Chapter 105 – I Am from the Wizard Tower

The small courtyard finally fell silent.

Even Jayce had gone back to bandage his wounds.

The other residents of the house never came out from the beginning to the end.

Ada silently got up from the ground, limping back into the house.

He glanced at Saul, who was still sitting at the table. He opened his mouth as if he wanted to curse, but in the end, he only said coldly, “Leave now.”

Saul said nothing, simply nodded, and got down from the table.

As he stepped out of the house, the door behind him slammed shut with a loud bang.

Saul adjusted the items on his body and walked lightly toward the exit.

Just then, someone appeared at the doorway.

It was the old madman who had disappeared for a day.

Gripping the broken door frame of the courtyard with both hands, he mustered all his courage and asked Saul, “You... You will save Penny, won’t you?”

Saul tilted his head and looked at him. “So you weren’t actually crazy. That day, you were just pretending to be asleep, right?”

The old madman trembled all over, his dirt- and woodchip-covered beard shedding flakes as he shook.

But he still gathered his courage, lifted his head, and said, “Yes, sir. You… You are a wizard, aren’t you? Can you save little Penny? She’s such a pitiful and kind child.”

“I have a general understanding of Grindstone Town’s situation. Can you tell me more about these barbarians and vengeful spirits you mentioned?”

This time, the old madman didn’t hesitate. His eyes filled with sorrow. “Alright. I’ll tell you now.”

But Saul simply grabbed the old man’s arm. “Tell me on the way. I’m in a hurry.”

After Saul and the old madman left, Ada locked himself in his room, refusing to speak to anyone.

Suddenly, the door was kicked open.

Jayce, who had just finished bandaging his wounds, stormed inside. “Hey, Ada, are you just going to give up like this?”

Ada was curled up on his wooden bed, clutching Penny’s small food bowl tightly in his hands.

He lifted his head woodenly and said to Jayce, “Jayce, thank you. I misunderstood you before.”

“Why are you bringing that up now?” Jayce patted the bed and said, “After all these years of watching, I’ve figured out that before the ritual starts, Penny will probably be locked up somewhere alone. Do you dare sneak in with me and take her back?”

Penny felt herself being carried to a high place and then thrown to the ground.

Since she was small and blind, her captors didn’t bother restraining her movements.

She reached out to feel the ground, only to touch something slightly sticky.

It made her uncomfortable.

There were no walls nearby for her to feel around, so she curled up and hugged her knees.

She wasn’t very scared.

For years, she had dreamed of people dying in her arms, of herself hacking others to death, and even of stabbing a knife into her own throat…

To her, death was nothing unusual or frightening.

She only worried about Ada. He would have to live alone now. Would he be able to get used to it?

And Saul… He was probably a wizard too. After all, his dreams were so strange and terrifying.

Someone as powerful as him would definitely fulfill her wish, right?

Penny touched her eyelids.

There was still a little pain when she touched her eyes, but only a little.

Saul hadn’t taken out her entire eyeball, but he had taken something from her eyes.

She felt her eyelids again—there were no gaping holes there. She was glad about that.

At that moment, footsteps interrupted her thoughts.

She lifted her head, hearing one set of footsteps that sounded displeased and another that seemed anxious.

The owner of the displeased footsteps approached Penny and grabbed her chin before quickly letting go.

Then, in an angry voice, he shouted, “Why bring back such a worthless thing?”

Penny didn’t understand what he meant, but if he was the wizard of Grindstone Town… Well, he didn’t seem half as powerful as Saul.

The other person explained, “The town is running out of girls. This was the fastest one we could bring back.”

“Then go outside and find more! Go to the nearby villages. Tell them that if they offer up a pure young girl, their whole family can move into Grindstone Town.”

“This… Alright. I’ll have Jeff handle it.”

“And what about this one?”

The icy, sinister gaze fell on Penny again.

The displeased man spoke slowly. “Since she’s already here, I’ll make do with her for now.”

Penny shrank a little. The way he said “make do” sounded scarier than death itself.

“Alright, I’ll begin. Wait outside.”

“Now? Alright.”

The second set of footsteps left.

Now, only the two of them were in the room.

Penny suddenly shivered.

Then, she heard the rustling of clothing being removed.

The displeased wizard moved toward her again.

She stared blankly in his direction, her eyes still shut.

“You don’t seem very afraid.”

Penny shook her head.

“That’s troublesome. I’d prefer a more fearful soul.”

“How can I make you more scared? Maybe breaking your arms and legs?”

Cold hands gripped Penny’s shoulders, but she still showed little reaction.

“What an unexpected calmness. Are you a fool? Maybe I should flay you first?”

Penny flinched slightly, but her fear was still minimal.

The man fell silent for a moment, then suddenly leaned close to her ear, his breath chilling.

“You’re not afraid of dying anymore? Then you must have family in town, someone who takes care of you, right? I’ll have them brought here and killed in front of you, one by one. How about that?”

Penny’s head shot up. Her breathing turned rapid, full of unhidden anxiety and fear.

The man was satisfied. “So, you only care about the people around you. Good. I think after they die, your emotions will be even richer.”

His footsteps moved away. Penny scrambled up, trying to grab him, but her hands found only air.

“Ah!”

She let out a short cry but didn’t know what to say to protect Ada.

But before she could speak, another voice rang out.

And before that voice spoke, she hadn’t heard a single footstep.

Yet she knew that voice very well—it was Saul!

“You’re trying to gather vengeful spirits to enhance your body and increase your magic power, huh? As someone who’s been there, I have to tell you—it’s not very effective.”

Saul deactivated his invisibility and stepped out from the corner of the room.

“Who are you?” The first-level wizard apprentice, Shelly, was momentarily surprised, but the next second, he cast a shock spell.

His casting speed showed that he had practiced this spell countless times.

But the electric shock hit Saul’s body—and his entire figure disappeared.

“An illusion?”

Shelly realized he had been tricked.

He quickly surveyed the area and saw an identical young man standing beside Penny.

This time, he didn’t attack recklessly. Instead, he backed away toward the clothes he had thrown on the ground.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Grindstone Town is under the protection of the Golsa Wizard Tower. If you don’t want to offend the tower, you’d best—”

Before he could finish, Saul flicked his wrist, sending a thin object flying.

Shelly instinctively thought it was an attack and lunged to the left.

Meanwhile, Saul helped Penny to her feet, watching the bald, naked man’s acrobatics with distaste.

“I am from the Golsa Wizard Tower,” Saul said, pointing to the letter that had landed on the floor. “Take a look yourself.”
