Chapter 127: Out of the Tiger’s Den, Into the Dragon’s Lair

What kind of light could emerge from underground?

Saul pulled out a Spirit Armor Technique scroll, while the Soul Borer Worms on his arm writhed even more frantically.

Both sides were moving at high speed, about to collide.

The diary still hadn’t shown itself.

“Could it be someone I know?”

Who could it be?

Senior Byron didn’t know flight magic, so was it Bill? Or Wright?

Saul became excited and couldn’t help but call out, “Senior?”

“Saul?”

A familiar voice answered.

The two beams of light collided.

Wright’s pale face appeared before Saul.

Saul was so excited that he wanted to explain what had happened on the surface. “Senior Wright, run!”

“Saul, run!”

Saul: “?”

As a young Level 2 apprentice, Saul was no match for the experienced Level 3 apprentice Wright. Before he could react, Wright had already grabbed him and was dragging him upward.

After a brief moment of shock, Saul immediately understood—Wright must have also encountered an enemy he couldn’t resist.

Moreover, Wright had no companions with him, meaning the situation was dire.

This meant that the enemy chasing Wright was so powerful that it forced them all to scatter and flee separately.

Realizing this, Saul didn’t hesitate. He quickly signaled Little Algae to follow Wright’s momentum and climb upward with him.

But there were enemies above as well. To avoid an ambush, Saul quickly explained the situation to Wright in the simplest terms.

“An enemy who could easily kill you?” Wright’s eyes flickered with doubt, but his speed did not slow down as they continued upward.

“Got it. Stay close to me no matter what.”

Wright made a swift decision and flew ahead of Saul, clearly determined to shield him from the enemy above.

This decisiveness surprised Saul.

Wright was a fellow apprentice from Anze, a companion of Bill.

Despite his usually carefree attitude, Saul had never fully let down his guard around him.

But now, knowing that a powerful enemy was present, Wright had immediately chosen to stand in front of Saul rather than use him as a shield.

“Be careful, Senior. The enemy above might be incredibly fast.”

Wright didn’t reply. His newly grown wings flapped rapidly behind him.

Saul stared at the diary, ready to react at any moment.

But the diary remained silent.

“This means Wright should be able to handle the enemy above.” Saul felt a little relieved and even considered whether they could counterattack.

In the diary, he had already been killed by this enemy multiple times. If there was an opportunity to strike back, Saul definitely wouldn’t hold back.

The enemy was fast. If Saul wanted to counterattack, he would only have a brief window of opportunity.

It had to be the moment Wright clashed with the enemy.

The worms on Saul’s arm started writhing again.

Finally, the two of them leapt up to the next level.

But the cave before them was eerily silent.

Wright, growing anxious, quickly scanned the area. “Doesn’t matter, we keep moving!”

“Senior, be careful. The enemy is very fast.” Saul warned again.

But even as they continued forward and reached a tunnel filled with spiderwebs, they still hadn’t encountered the mysterious, powerful enemy.

As they passed through, Saul observed the webs around them.

Only at the entrance of the passage did he see signs of damage—further ahead, the webs remained intact.

This meant that someone had chased them to this point but then turned back for some reason.

Saul’s eyes lit up.

Up ahead, Wright suddenly stopped.

Saul rushed to his side and looked ahead.

Sure enough, he saw several familiar figures.

Senior Byron and Bill were standing there unharmed, but Nick was unconscious, slumped over Byron’s back.

Had Nick been injured by the enemy that had been chasing Saul?

Saul hurried forward. His sudden movement startled the two tense men.

When they saw that it was Saul, Byron, carrying Nick, stepped up to meet him.

“Saul, why did you come down here?”

Saul frowned slightly and turned to look at Wright, who had just caught up.

“Did you not get my signal? There’s a group of enemies on the surface. They came with a massive three-masted ship. I suspect they are from the Land-Sailing. One of them chased me, and I had no choice but to escape underground.”

“What? Those people are from the Land-Sailing?” Byron’s expression changed.

Bill’s face darkened as well.

Bill looked at Wright, who shrugged. “Things were so chaotic earlier, I didn’t even notice Saul’s signal.”

Judging by their reactions, Saul realized that they had encountered an even more dangerous enemy.

“Let’s talk while we move.” Byron adjusted Nick on his back and spoke in a heavy tone.

But rather than walking, they ran.

Saul could sense their genuine fear, which made him instinctively tense up. What kind of enemy was chasing them?

Even knowing that there were enemies outside, they still didn’t hesitate to run toward the surface.

Bill led the way, while Saul stayed at the rear.

Soon, they reached their first crossroads.

“Which way?” Bill shouted as he ran.

This wasn’t the path Byron and his team had originally taken during their underground exploration—Saul had stumbled upon it by accident.

Only Saul knew the correct way out.

Following his directions, they gradually approached the surface.

As they exchanged information, both sides learned of each other’s predicaments.

It turned out that after days without encountering any evil spirits, Bill had suggested that they venture deeper underground.

Byron, frustrated by their lack of findings, had reluctantly agreed.

Upon discovering another descending tunnel, they chose to enter a lower level of the underground cave system.

But as soon as they entered the second level, they encountered a terrifying Soul Storm.

Such storms form when powerful wizards die or when a large number of wizards perish in one place.

These souls, unable to transform into evil spirits yet unwilling to dissipate, constantly gather and collapse upon themselves, forming a tornado of fragmented souls.

For ordinary people and low-level wizard apprentices, touching it meant instant death.

However, some powerful apprentices could extract soul fragments from the storm.

Byron, a Dark Element apprentice, along with Bill and Wright, who sought valuable materials, naturally didn’t want to miss the opportunity.

They believed that the Soul Storm wasn’t too dangerous and decided to attack its outer edges to extract trapped soul fragments.

But no one expected that their attack would create a small breach in the storm—and from that opening, a true wizard-level evil spirit emerged!

“A full-fledged wizard?” Saul’s hands and feet turned cold.

He could fight a Level 2 apprentice.

He could escape from a Level 3 apprentice while causing trouble for them.

But he couldn’t even imagine surviving against a true wizard.

“So how did you all manage to escape?”
